AIICO Insurance Strengthens Board with Appointment of Three New Directors

AIICO Insurance Plc has announced the appointment of three new directors to its board as part of efforts to strengthen governance and strategic oversight.

The appointments were disclosed in a corporate notice signed by the company secretary, Donald Kanu.

According to the statement, Sadiq Mohammed was appointed as an Independent Non-Executive Director, while Tunde Mabawonku and Rolake Akinkugbe-Filani joined the board as Non-Executive Directors.

The company said the appointments bring extensive experience across financial services, banking, capital markets, infrastructure, and advisory services.

Sadiq Mohammed has more than three decades of experience spanning financial markets, pensions, real estate, infrastructure, fintech, and alternative investments.

He is the founder and Chief Executive Officer of Hexium Investments.

Before establishing Hexium Investments, Mohammed spent 28 years at ARM Group, where he held several leadership positions including Deputy Group CEO, Managing Director of ARM Pension Managers, Chief Operating Officer, and Managing Director of ARM’s Proprietary Business.

During his time at ARM, he oversaw investments and projects such as the Lekki Concession Company, Fara Park Estate, Beechwood Estate, and Lakowe Lakes Golf & Country Estate.

He has also served on the boards of FMDQ Clear Limited and FMDQ Group.

Mohammed attended Harvard Business School’s Advanced Management Programme and holds an Executive MBA jointly awarded by Carnegie Mellon University and the University of Geneva.

Tunde Mabawonku currently serves as Executive Director overseeing Finance, Retail and Digital Business at Wema Bank Plc.

He has more than 25 years of experience across banking, strategy, risk management, finance, and digital transformation.

Before becoming an Executive Director at Wema Bank, Mabawonku served as Chief Finance and Strategy Officer, where he supervised the bank’s Finance and Corporate Services Division.

His career also includes leadership roles at Chartered Bank, Prudent Bank, and Skye Bank.

Mabawonku holds a Master’s degree in Finance from London Business School and a degree in Economics from University of Ibadan.

He is also affiliated with professional bodies including ICAN, CIBN, and ACITN.

Rolake Akinkugbe-Filani has nearly 20 years of experience across energy, banking, development finance, risk advisory, and capital markets.

She is the founding Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of EnergyInc Advisors, a company focused on infrastructure financing and strategic advisory services.

Her previous professional experience includes roles at Zenith Bank Plc, Ecobank Group, FBNQuest Merchant Bank, Eurasia Group, Mixta Africa, and Control Risks Group.

She holds a Global Executive MBA from the TRIUM programme involving New York University Stern School of Business, London School of Economics, and HEC Paris.

Akinkugbe-Filani also currently serves as an Independent Non-Executive Director at UpEnergy.

The newly appointed directors join a board chaired by Kundan Sainani, while Babatunde Fajemirokun serves as Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer.

Other members of the board include Ademola Adebise, Samaila Dalhat Zubairu, Folake Edun, Olalekan Akinyanmi, Raimund Snyders, and Independent Non-Executive Director Kemi Adewole.
