MTN Nigeria has commenced an accelerated rollout of its 5G network infrastructure across parts of Lagos State, reinforcing its commitment to expanding broadband internet access, deepening digital inclusion, and supporting Nigeria’s rapidly evolving digital economy.
The deployment exercise, carried out in collaboration with relevant Lagos State Government stakeholders, is part of a broader national agenda to improve connectivity, enhance digital services, and position Nigeria as a competitive player in the global digital space.
As part of the rollout process, preliminary site surveys are being conducted across various communities to identify suitable locations for network infrastructure, including poles and supporting equipment. These activities are aimed at ensuring optimal network performance, improved coverage, and seamless user experience for residents and businesses.
Investigation reveals that the initiative goes beyond infrastructure deployment, emphasising its long-term value in connecting underserved and densely populated communities, enabling access to high-speed internet, and unlocking opportunities in education, healthcare, commerce, and innovation.
In addition, the 5G expansion aligns with its broader mission to drive inclusive digital transformation and support the Federal and State Governments’ digital economy agenda. The enhanced network capacity is expected to accelerate productivity, enable smart services, and support the growth of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) through improved access to digital tools and platforms.
The Lagos State Government, which continues to position the state as a leading smart city hub in Africa, has consistently emphasised the importance of robust digital infrastructure in achieving its economic development objectives. The MTN 5G deployment is therefore seen as a strategic partnership that strengthens public-private collaboration in delivering critical infrastructure.
One of the Engineers on ground at Fagbile/ Ijegun area of Lagos where work was ongoing, assured residents, on behalf of MTN, that all deployment activities will be carried out in compliance with regulatory standards and with due regard for community engagement, safety, and minimal disruption to daily activities.
In a close to a quarter of a century of operations in Nigeria, the company continues to reaffirm its commitment to continuous investment in Nigeria’s telecommunications ecosystem. Undoubtedly, expanding broadband penetration remains central to national development, innovation, and economic competitiveness.
As the rollout progresses, Lagos residents are expected to experience improved network speed, lower latency, and enhanced connectivity that will support emerging technologies and digital services across multiple sectors.
