Troops of the Nigerian Army have foiled a terrorist attack in Kaduna State, rescuing 31 civilians abducted during an Easter church service in Ariko Village, Kachia Local Government Area.

The swift operation followed a distress call reporting the abduction of worshippers at an ECWA Church during the service. According to a statement issued on Sunday by the Army Headquarters, troops immediately mobilised to the area and launched a pursuit of the attackers.

With support from local residents, the troops tracked the fleeing assailants and engaged them in a firefight, forcing them to abandon the hostages. “The pressure mounted by the advancing troops compelled the terrorists to flee, leaving behind 31 captives,” the Army said.

One of the rescued victims, who sustained injuries, is currently receiving medical attention. However, five victims were confirmed dead, with their remains recovered at the scene.

The Army noted that the fleeing attackers likely suffered casualties, as indicated by blood trails along their escape routes.

Security forces have intensified operations to track down the perpetrators and rescue any remaining captives. Additional troops have also been deployed to reinforce security in the area and prevent further attacks.

The General Officer Commanding 1 Division, Abubakar Wase, is reportedly on ground overseeing operations and conducting an assessment.

The Nigerian Army reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property, urging citizens to support security agencies with timely and credible information.

Authorities say sustained collaboration between the military and local communities remains critical to restoring peace and stability in affected areas.
