Lagos State has completed the rehabilitation of the Chevron-Chisco stretch of the Lekki–Epe Expressway, delivering three key sections of the corridor ahead of schedule.

The update was disclosed on Wednesday by the Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, via X.

The completed segments, Chevron–Igbo-Efon, Igbo-Efon–Jakande, and Jakande–Chisco, cover a total distance of 4.51 kilometres. Although collectively scheduled for 23 days, the works were delivered in 16 days.

According to the state government:

  • Chevron–Igbo-Efon (1.06km) – completed in 6 days
  • Igbo-Efon–Jakande (1.57km) – completed in 8 days
  • Jakande–Chisco (1.88km) – completed in 9 days

Officials said the early delivery reflects “efficiency, coordination, and sensitivity to the daily realities of road users.”

The rehabilitation included asphalt resurfacing, drainage repairs, strengthening of weak sections, improved lane markings, and enhanced kerb visibility to boost safety and traffic flow.

The Chevron–Chisco works form part of a broader 64-day rehabilitation plan covering a 20-kilometre stretch from Admiralty to Jubilee Bridge on both carriageways.

Originally scheduled to commence in November 2025, the project was deferred during the Yuletide season despite contracts having been awarded.

The Lekki–Epe Expressway remains one of Lagos’ most critical transport corridors, linking Victoria Island, Lekki, and the Epe axis while supporting daily commuter traffic and commercial logistics.

To minimise disruption, the government adopted a phased construction approach rather than closing the corridor entirely.

Key measures included:

  • Phased lane closures beginning from Chevron to Igbo-Efon
  • A dynamic lane-sharing system during peak hours (4:00 a.m.–12:00 p.m.), with two lanes open toward Lagos and one toward Epe
  • Grading of road shoulders to accommodate diverted traffic
  • Deployment of traffic personnel, signage, illumination, and safety measures
  • Advisory on alternative routes including Coastal Road (Ogombo–Abraham Adesanya) and Orchid Road–Lafiaji–Naale Street

With the Chevron-Chisco segment completed ahead of schedule, expectations are rising that the full 20km rehabilitation may also be delivered before the projected 64-day timeline.
