The Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), Abia State Chapter, has elected Onyinye Ralph-Nwachukwu, FNIPR, as its new State Chairman, marking a historic milestone for the professional body.

Ralph-Nwachukwu was elected on Tuesday, January 27, 2026, at the Police Officers’ Mess, Umuahia, following the completion of the tenure of the immediate past executive council led by Deacon Olunkwa Felix.

The election was supervised by the National President of NIPR, Dr Ike Neliaku, who was represented by Dr Ahmed Sajoh, FNIPR, Chairman of the Council Committee on Chapter Support and Development.

Congratulating the newly elected officers, the Abia State Commissioner for Information, Chief Okey Kanu, charged them to uphold professionalism and ethical standards, assuring them of the state government’s willingness to collaborate with the Institute.

In his remarks, Dr Neliaku urged the new leadership to strengthen the Chapter and operate in line with best professional practices. He also highlighted recent amendments to the Institute’s Bye-Laws, which now permit chapters to establish branches.

“The new Bye-Law allows chapters to have branches, meaning Aba and Umuahia can function independently while coming together quarterly,” he explained.

In her acceptance speech, Ralph-Nwachukwu thanked members for the confidence reposed in her, describing her election as a collective achievement rather than a personal victory.

“I stand here with gratitude and a deep sense of responsibility. This mandate reflects our shared commitment to building a stronger Abia NIPR,” she said, while also commending the Electoral Committee for conducting a transparent and credible process.

She noted that her emergence as Chairman represents a landmark moment, as she becomes the first female Chairman produced by the Abia State Chapter of NIPR.

“This moment is not about personal achievement but about the steady growth of our Chapter and the trust placed in inclusive leadership,” she said.

Ralph-Nwachukwu paid tribute to past chairmen and former executives for their sacrifices and foundational contributions, calling on members to embrace unity and renewed commitment to service.

“This election is not about individuals but about service. Together, we will reposition Abia NIPR as a Chapter defined by professionalism, unity and progress,” she stated.

She pledged to run an inclusive administration focused on strengthening ethical practice, improving the Chapter’s visibility, and building strategic partnerships.

“We will listen, consult and carry everyone along, because every member matters and every voice counts,” she assured.

Other officers elected are:

  • Ikechukwu-Odionyenfe Oluchi – Vice Chairman
  • Ori Innocent-Onuoha – Secretary
  • Victor Onwuka – Assistant Secretary
  • Grace Gbagi – Financial Secretary
  • Onyinyechi Obi – Treasurer
  • Promise Uzoma Okoro (PUO) – Public Relations Executive
  • Cletus Nwankwo – Auditor
  • Amaka Unamba – Welfare Officer

The immediate past Chairman, Deacon Olunkwa Felix, alongside Sir OJ Bob Amanze, was elected as Ex-Officio members of the Chapter.
