Nigerians are embracing Artificial Intelligence at a record pace, far outstripping the global average. According to a Google-Ipsos report, 88 per cent of Nigerian adults have used AI chatbots, 26 points higher than the worldwide adoption rate of 62 per cent.
The study shows AI is more than a novelty in Nigeria; it’s a tool for learning, work, and entrepreneurship. 93 per cent of Nigerians use AI to understand complex topics, while 91 per cent leverage it for work tasks, and 80 per cent explore new business opportunities or career paths, nearly double the global average.
Academia benefits most, with 95 per cent saying students and educators gain the most, and 91 per cent noting AI improves access to information. Optimism is high: 80 per cent of Nigerians are excited about AI’s possibilities, compared to just 53 per cent globally. Among frequent users, excitement rises to 90 per cent.
Google West Africa’s Taiwo Kola-Ogunlade said, “It’s inspiring to see Nigerians creatively using AI to unlock new opportunities and shape the future with technology.”
Nigeria’s rapid adoption and positive sentiment position it as a global digital economy frontrunner, harnessing AI for personal and national growth.
