Nigeria’s Super Eagles booked their place in the quarter-finals of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations with a dominant 4–0 victory over Mozambique in their Round of 16 clash in Fès, Morocco.

The Super Eagles, who topped Group C with a perfect record, carried their fine form into the knockout stage, overwhelming a Mozambican side making its first-ever appearance in the AFCON Round of 16.

Nigeria controlled the game from the outset, dictating the tempo and keeping Mozambique pinned deep in their half.

Ademola Lookman opened the scoring in the 20th minute after a precise assist from Akor Adams. Victor Osimhen doubled the lead five minutes later and struck again early in the second half, converting a pass from Lookman in the 47th minute.

Akor Adams sealed the rout in the 75th minute, capping a commanding team performance. By the 80th minute, Nigeria had registered eight shots on target, while Mozambique failed to test goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali.

Nigeria’s midfield trio of Wilfred Ndidi, Frank Onyeka and Alex Iwobi controlled the centre of the pitch. At the same time, the defence, Bright Osayi-Samuel, Semi Ajayi, Calvin Bassey and Bruno Onyemaechi, remained solid throughout.

Head coach Éric Chelle made second-half changes to manage the game, introducing fresh players without disrupting Nigeria’s dominance.

With the win, the Super Eagles continue their strong run at the tournament as they chase a fourth AFCON title. Nigeria will face the winner of the Round of 16 tie between Algeria and DR Congo in the quarter-finals.
