The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has extended the deadline for completing 2025 admissions into public universities to November 17, 2025, following appeals from institutions affected by unforeseen disruptions.
In a statement signed by Dr. Fabian Benjamin, its Public Communication Adviser, JAMB said the extension was approved to ensure fairness and inclusiveness across universities.
The move comes after Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, Minister of Education, initially set October 31 as the deadline for public university admissions, with all tertiary institutions expected to conclude admissions by December 31, 2025.
According to JAMB, the extension became necessary due to two main factors:
- An appeal from the Association of Vice Chancellors of Nigerian Universities (AVCNU), following disruptions caused by court orders that temporarily halted the 2025/26 admission process until October 28, 2025.
- The introduction of new academic programmes approved by the National Universities Commission (NUC) on October 29, 2025, which added 229 programmes across 37 universities, requiring additional admission scheduling.
JAMB expressed appreciation to institutions that met earlier deadlines but stressed that the new date is final and must be strictly observed.
The Board reaffirmed its commitment to a transparent, credible, and inclusive admissions process, adding that the goal remains to strengthen public confidence and support Nigeria’s education reform agenda.
