The Federal Ministry of Education has announced a major reform to the admission process for all federal unity colleges, making it fully automated. The new system is designed to combat overpopulation and ensure that schools no longer admit more students than their facilities can handle.

In a statement released on Tuesday, Mrs. Folasade Boriowo, the Ministry’s Director of Press and Public Relations,  confirmed that admissions into the 80 conventional Federal Unity Colleges for Junior Secondary School 1 are now being processed strictly within each school’s approved capacity. This is a direct response to a long-standing issue where these schools faced overstretched resources due to admissions exceeding their official limits.

The automated process is intended to bring greater transparency and accountability to the system while upholding educational standards. According to Boriowo, the new system will also streamline the admission process, which begins with the National Common Entrance Examination (NCEE) administered by the National Examinations Council (NECO).

Parents and students can now check admission results directly on the Ministry’s official website. Meanwhile, the Ministry has also confirmed that admission results for the 42 Federal Technical Colleges will be released soon. This reform is part of a broader effort to improve Nigeria’s education sector and ensure that students have access to a quality learning environment.
