The Nigerian Association of Petroleum Explorationists (NAPE), a leading body of oil and gas exploration professionals in Nigeria, is celebrating its 50th anniversary. The association is highlighting its significant contributions to the country’s energy sector over the last five decades.
A Legacy of Impact
During a press conference, Johnbosco Uche, NAPE’s president, outlined the association’s key achievements:
- Policy Influence: NAPE has served as a respected voice in national energy discussions, advocating for policies and regulatory reforms that support the oil and gas industry.
- Academic Partnerships: Through its University Assistance Program (UAP), NAPE has partnered with over 60 universities to provide equipment, software, books, and mentorship. These efforts help bridge the gap between academic theory and industry practice, preparing the next generation of geoscientists.
- Professional Development: NAPE has consistently invested in its members by organizing conferences, workshops, and training to ensure professional standards in Nigeria’s geoscience sector remain world-class.
- Energy Transition Leadership: The association has been a leader in conversations about the energy transition, gas development, and frontier exploration, helping to define a sustainable energy future for Nigeria.
Celebrating the Future of Energy
The theme for the anniversary celebration is “NAPE @50: Pioneering the Future of Energy in Africa.” Uche stated that the event is not only a celebration of the past but also a commitment to innovation and national relevance for the next 50 years.
The celebration will include key events such as:
- Speeches from top industry and government leaders.
- A CEO panel session on future opportunities.
- The recognition of 50 distinguished professionals who have shaped the industry.
- A gala and awards ceremony.
Uche concluded by emphasizing that NAPE’s work is not just about oil and gas, but about “people, prosperity, and possibilities,” and he expressed excitement about the association’s future role in driving energy excellence across Africa.
