… Resolves 528 Complaints, Secures ₦26.2m in Credit Adjustments, Refunds
The Lagos State Consumer Protection Agency (LASCOPA) has recorded significant progress in protecting electricity consumers’ rights through its intervention in complaints against Ikeja Electric Distribution Company (IKEDC), facilitating the resolution of 528 complaints and credit adjustments and refunds totalling ₦26,243,758.75 between January and September 2026.
Afolabi Solebo, General Manager/Chief Executive Officer of LASCOPA, reaffirmed the Agency’s commitment to promoting fairness, accountability, transparency and improved service delivery in the electricity distribution sector.
According to the Agency’s records, 556 complaints were received against Ikeja Electric during the nine months, out of which 528 have been resolved, while 28 remain ongoing, representing a resolution rate of approximately 95 per cent.
The Agency also facilitated credit adjustments and refunds amounting to ₦26,243,758.75 for affected consumers, underscoring the importance of regulatory intervention, consumer advocacy and mediation in resolving disputes and securing appropriate redress.
Speaking on the intervention, Mr. Yusuf Musiliu, Head of LASCOPA’s Complaints and Mediation Department, explained that the Agency receives and analyses complaints submitted through online and offline channels. He noted that the stakeholders’ parley provides a platform for Ikeja Electric officials and affected consumers to discuss grievances, reach mutually acceptable agreements and resolve disputes amicably.
Expressing satisfaction with the agreements reached through the engagement, Mr. Musiliu urged aggrieved consumers to follow established procedures for seeking redress rather than resorting to self-help. He advised consumers to submit relevant supporting documents, including electricity bills, payment receipts and other evidence, when filing complaints to facilitate timely investigations and resolution.
He further disclosed that LASCOPA’s stakeholders’ parley with Ikeja Electric holds on the last Thursday of every month, providing a regular platform for consumers to present unresolved complaints and engage directly with the electricity distribution company. Consumers were encouraged to report billing disputes, estimated billing, overbilling, electricity supply issues and other unfair practices promptly.
The Agency reiterated its commitment to protecting consumers and promoting accountability among service providers in line with its mandate and the Lagos State Consumer Protection Law 2025 (as amended).
Solebo advised residents to contact the Agency through its toll-free helpline, 080 0005 2726, available on weekdays or Email: lasgcopa@gmail. com, to report complaints and seek assistance.
