HBM Nigeria Plc has commenced the 2026 edition of its Disability to Ability (D2A) programme, targeting 120 persons with disabilities (PWDs) in Alimosho and Epe, Lagos State, with vocational and entrepreneurial skills to promote economic independence.

The six-week programme, organised in partnership with the Lagos State Employment Trust Fund (LSETF), began with a joint orientation and launch. Participants will receive practical training in make-up and gele, wig and braids making, phone and laptop repairs, and shoe and bag making.

The initiative also covers entrepreneurship, financial literacy, digital skills, business management, sustainable livelihoods, circular economy and green skills.

Participants will undertake practical projects and assessments before presenting their work at a graduation showcase.

Viola Graham-Douglas, Director of Communications, Public Affairs and Sustainable Development at HBM Nigeria Plc, said the programme reflects the company’s belief that disability should not prevent people from achieving their economic goals.

“Through D2A, we equip participants with the practical skills and broader business knowledge needed to develop their abilities, earn a living, and participate fully in society,” she said.

Graham-Douglas added that skills development provides persons with disabilities an opportunity to build sustainable livelihoods and participate more actively in the economy.

The programme builds on HBM Nigeria’s previous inclusion and economic empowerment initiatives. In 2025, the company trained 100 persons with disabilities across Lagos in phone and laptop repairs, make-up and gele, wig and braids making, and shoe and bag production.

That edition was implemented in partnership with LSETF, the Lagos State Office for Disability Affairs (LASODA), the Lagos State Ministry of Youth and Social Development, and other stakeholders.

HBM Nigeria Plc manufactures cement, ready-mix concrete, mortar and Plaster of Paris products. Its cement manufacturing operations are located in Ewekoro and Sagamu in Ogun State, Ashaka in Gombe State, and Mfamosing in Cross River State. The company also operates ready-mix facilities in Lagos, Abuja and Port Harcourt.

HBM Nigeria has an installed cement production capacity of 10.5 million tonnes per annum.
