Unilever Nigeria has awarded scholarships to children of its employees, reinforcing its commitment to education, employee welfare and creating opportunities for young Nigerians.

The Unilever Nigeria Scholarship Scheme, established more than 30 years ago, provides merit-based financial support to academically outstanding children of the company’s non-management employees.

The scholarship supports beneficiaries from Junior Secondary School through Senior Secondary School Year Three (SSS3), subject to satisfactory academic performance.

The latest beneficiaries emerged from a competitive scholarship aptitude examination conducted by the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) across Unilever Nigeria’s manufacturing locations in Agbara, Ogun State, and Oregun, Lagos.

Under the scheme, new applicants must rank among the top 25 candidates and score at least 50 per cent in the aptitude test to qualify for the award.

Existing beneficiaries are also required to maintain a minimum average score of 50 per cent in their final examinations and obtain at least five credits, including Mathematics and English Language, in a recognised secondary school final examination at their first attempt.

Michael Duah, Human Relations Director, Unilever Nigeria, said the initiative reflects the company’s broader commitment to the well-being of its employees and their families.

According to him, investing in the education of employees’ children goes beyond academic support, as it helps to create opportunities for the next generation while strengthening the company’s relationship with its workforce.

The scholarship scheme has, over the years, provided educational support to children of eligible employees, helping them pursue their secondary education and build a stronger foundation for their future.

The company said the initiative underscores the importance it places on education and the development of young people, while reinforcing its commitment to supporting employees and their families.
