The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has restored full access to its Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS), allowing tertiary institutions to resume and accelerate admission processing for the 2026/2027 academic session.
The Board, in a notice to candidates, institutions and other stakeholders, said CAPS is now fully operational after a temporary disruption and urged institutions to recover lost time by speeding up their admission processes.
JAMB also advised candidates who receive admission offers to respond promptly by accepting or rejecting the offers on the platform. “CAPS is back and fully operational,” the Board stated. “With CAPS back online, institutions are urged to accelerate their admission processes to recover lost time and meet the agreed admission deadlines. Candidates are also advised to promptly accept admission offers made to them.”
Despite the temporary disruption, JAMB said the existing deadlines for the 2026/2027 admission exercise remain unchanged.
Public universities are required to complete their admission processes by October 31, 2026, while private universities have until November 30, 2026.
Other tertiary institutions, including polytechnics and colleges of education, have until December 31, 2026 to conclude their admission exercises.
The deadlines mean institutions whose admission processes were affected by the CAPS downtime will have to intensify their activities to meet the stipulated timelines.
Candidates, meanwhile, have been advised not to delay action when admission offers are made to them through CAPS.
JAMB has also directed candidates who previously indicated that they were awaiting their 2026 National Examinations Council (NECO) Senior School Certificate Examination results to upload or verify their results.
The directive follows the release of the 2026 NECO SSCE results and is intended to ensure that candidates’ academic credentials are available to institutions as admission processing resumes. “Following the release of the 2026 NECO SSCE results, candidates who previously awaited their results are advised to upload and/or verify them promptly to ensure their credentials are available for consideration as institutions intensify their admission processes,” JAMB said.
Candidates who fail to provide the required results could face difficulties during the admission process, particularly where institutions require verified academic credentials before finalising offers.
The restoration follows JAMB’s temporary shutdown of CAPS on September 24, when the Board cited technical challenges linked to the platform’s hosting arrangements.
The disruption came at a critical stage of the 2026/2027 admission exercise, as institutions were using the platform to process admission recommendations and candidates were monitoring their admission status.
CAPS serves as JAMB’s centralised platform for tertiary admissions. Institutions use it to process and recommend candidates, while applicants can use the system to monitor admission offers and accept or reject them.
The latest restoration is therefore expected to enable institutions to continue processing admissions without further interruption.
