The Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) has stepped up enforcement of environmental regulations across the Ajah-Lekki axis, identifying 24 markets, commercial outlets and institutions for compliance action over persistent waste management violations.
Dr Muyiwa Gbadegesin, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of LAWMA, disclosed this on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, following an enforcement operation conducted the previous day.
The exercise was carried out by LAWMA’s Project WISE team, in collaboration with officials of the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps (KAI), the military and the Nigeria Police.
According to Gbadegesin, the 24 facilities were identified following monitoring activities that revealed breaches of approved waste management requirements and other environmental regulations.
The affected facilities include Kodak Moment, Bayrock Lifestyle, Caelum Nigeria Ltd, Alpha Pharmacy, Amazon Farm, Ramayaa Mall, Simply Africa Place, Aries Safia, Wolly Mall, Delightful Toy Shop, New Creation Church and The Logic Church.
Others are Dow Eye Clinic, Time Oak Hotel, L OMP, Furniture House, Fashion Design Factory, De Phantom Hotel, Elizade Motors, Trinity, Living Faith Church, Premium Rentals, Christ Chapel Church and QMB Mart.
Gbadegesin said LAWMA had continued to engage businesses and other establishments to encourage compliance but warned that persistent violations would attract enforcement. “We have continued to engage and monitor facilities to secure compliance, but where establishments continue to default after being allowed to comply, we will take the necessary enforcement measures,” he said.
He added that commercial activities must not undermine proper waste management or residents’ right to a clean and orderly environment.
During the operation at Eleganza, enforcement officers also removed illegal structures erected along road corridors and pedestrian walkways by traders.
The structures, according to LAWMA, had obstructed the movement of motorists and pedestrians.
At Issa Imamu Market, the enforcement team sealed the market over persistent indiscriminate disposal of waste along the roadside.
The latest action forms part of Lagos State’s broader effort to strengthen environmental compliance and curb indiscriminate waste disposal across commercial areas.
Gbadegesin urged businesses, markets, institutions and residents to comply with approved waste management requirements and cooperate with enforcement teams.
He also called on Lagos residents to support the campaign by avoiding indiscriminate dumping and reporting environmental violations.
The LAWMA boss said the Authority would continue to combine stakeholder engagement and improved waste management services with firm enforcement against persistent defaulters.
He stressed that sustained compliance was essential to preventing indiscriminate dumping, protecting public spaces and maintaining a cleaner and healthier Lagos.
