Spider-Man: Brand New Day has grossed N1.8 billion across West Africa, becoming the highest-grossing Hollywood film in the region, according to distributor FilmOne Entertainment.
FilmOne announced the milestone on social media, describing the performance as a record for the Spider-Man franchise and thanking audiences across West Africa for their strong cinema turnout.
The achievement comes after the movie had already broken box-office records in Nigeria during its preview screenings and subsequent nationwide release.
In a post on X, FilmOne Entertainment said Spider-Man: Brand New Day had become the highest-grossing Hollywood film of all time in West Africa.
The latest N1.8 billion figure highlights the commercial strength of major Hollywood franchises in the region, particularly as cinema operators continue to rely on high-profile releases to drive attendance and revenue.
The film’s performance has been particularly strong in Nigeria, where it recorded N120.4 million from preview screenings, making it the country’s biggest preview opening at the time.
Filmhouse Cinemas also reported more than 3,500 advance ticket sales for the movie ahead of its nationwide release on July 31, marking the highest advance sales in the cinema chain’s history.
The film’s early performance suggested that it could surpass N500 million in its first five days in Nigerian cinemas. Its subsequent run across West Africa has now pushed its regional gross to N1.8 billion.
The result also comes amid growing box-office revenues in Nigeria. Industry data show that the country’s cinema revenue increased from N7.36 billion in 2023 to N11.58 billion in 2024 and N15.64 billion in 2025.
Industry projections indicate that Nigeria’s box office could exceed N20 billion in 2026, reflecting continued growth in cinema attendance and spending on major film releases.
The movie’s strong West African performance comes alongside significant international interest.
In the United States, Spider-Man: Brand New Day reportedly generated $72 million in preview ticket sales, setting a new benchmark for the biggest domestic preview opening in Hollywood history and surpassing the previous record held by Avengers: Endgame.
The film was projected to generate between $260 million and $280 million during its opening weekend.
The N1.8 billion milestone underscores the growing commercial importance of blockbuster releases to Africa’s cinema industry.
While the continent’s cinema market remains relatively small compared with major global markets, successful franchises can attract large audiences, support premium ticket prices and generate significant revenues for distributors and cinema operators.
For Spider-Man: Brand New Day, its latest milestone establishes the film as a major box-office success in West Africa and further demonstrates the region’s appetite for globally recognised entertainment franchises.
