Governor Ademola Adeleke of the Accord Party has been declared winner of the 2026 Osun State governorship election by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Adeleke polled 511,067 votes to defeat his closest challenger, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, who secured 444,815 votes.
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate, Najeem Salaam, finished a distant third with 17,180 votes.
Professor Joshua Olalekan Ogunwole, INEC Returning Officer for the election, announced the final result at about 7:49am on Sunday in Osogbo, the state capital.
Ogunwole, who is also the Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE), supervised the final collation of results from the state’s 30 local government areas.
According to the result recorded on Form EC8E, a total of 2,339,544 voters were registered for the election, while 1,010,684 voters were accredited. The election produced 985,079 valid votes.
The Accord Party candidate secured victory in 19 of the 30 local government areas, while Oyebamiji won the remaining 11.
Adeleke won in Boluwaduro, Ede South, Ife North, Ilesa West, Ifedayo, Ife Central, Orolu, Osogbo, Oriade, Odo-Otin, Ife East, Ifelodun, Iwo, Ede North, Ila, Aiyedire, Egbedore, Aiyedaade and Ejigbo.
Oyebamiji won in Ilesa East, Boripe, Irepodun, Obokun, Atakunmosa West, Irewole, Atakunmosa East, Isokan, Ola Oluwa, Ife South and Olorunda.
Among the results announced by INEC, Adeleke recorded some of his biggest margins in Ede South, where he polled 26,188 votes against Oyebamiji’s 6,219.
He also won Ede North with 35,427 votes to the APC candidate’s 10,283, while in Ife East, Adeleke secured 27,201 votes against 18,600 for Oyebamiji.
In Osogbo, the state capital, Adeleke polled 36,480 votes, defeating Oyebamiji, who scored 30,474.
Other notable Accord victories included Iwo, where Adeleke scored 27,085 votes against 19,660 for APC, and Ife Central, where he polled 21,171 votes compared with Oyebamiji’s 15,913.
The APC, however, recorded strong performances in several LGAs. Oyebamiji won Irewole with 29,972 votes against Adeleke’s 10,934, while he secured 19,963 votes in Boripe compared with 12,448 for Accord.
The APC also won Ilesa East, Obokun, Atakunmosa West, Atakunmosa East, Isokan, Ola Oluwa, Ife South and Olorunda, among others.
With the final declaration, Adeleke has secured another term as governor of Osun State after emerging ahead of his major challenger in both the overall vote count and the number of local government areas won.
