Dr. Ike Neliaku, President of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), has become the first public relations practitioner to register his consultancy under the newly amended NIPR Byelaw on Public Relations Consultancy Practice 2026, setting a precedent for compliance across the industry.

Dr. Neliaku formally registered his consultancy, Rightangle PR, as a member of the Public Relations Consultants Association of Nigeria (PRCAN) during an official visit by an NIPR delegation to the association’s secretariat in Lagos.

The move marks the first registration under the new regulatory framework and is expected to drive greater professionalism, ethical practice and institutional governance within Nigeria’s public relations consultancy sector.

Speaking during the ceremony, Dr. Neliaku described PRCAN as the professional body that should uphold the highest ethical standards in public relations practice.

“As licensed practitioners of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations, PRCAN represents the elite corps of PR practice in Nigeria and must be built on ethics that serve as the gold standard for public relations practice across Africa,” he said.

He explained that registering his consultancy under the new byelaw demonstrates confidence in the industry’s reform agenda and commitment to strengthening governance and ethical standards.

“By registering my company under this new byelaw, I am demonstrating full confidence in our shared vision to elevate standards, strengthen institutional governance and lead the way in ethical, strategic communication across the continent,” he added.

PRCAN President, Dr. Nkechi Ali-Balogun, described the registration as a significant endorsement of the association’s ongoing reforms.

She noted that the provision of public relations consultancy services requires professional competence, strict ethical standards and proper accreditation to protect clients and the integrity of the profession.

According to her, Dr. Neliaku’s decision to register his consultancy under the new byelaw demonstrates practical leadership and reinforces the partnership between NIPR and PRCAN in advancing professional excellence.

She added that the move also supports PRCAN’s ongoing membership recertification and expansion programme.

The event highlighted the growing collaboration between NIPR, the statutory regulator of public relations practice in Nigeria, and PRCAN, the trade association representing licensed public relations consultancy firms.

Both organisations reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening professional standards, expanding capacity development initiatives and refining membership requirements to ensure they remain rigorous, transparent and inclusive.

PRCAN serves as the umbrella body for public relations consultancy firms that have obtained the required licences to operate in Nigeria. The association is committed to promoting ethical practice, professionalism and sustainable growth within the country’s public relations industry.

The registration of Rightangle PR under the new byelaw is expected to encourage other consultancy firms to comply with the revised regulatory framework, further strengthening public confidence in Nigeria’s public relations profession.
